A fire suppression system is a water-free fire suppressant that releases a mixture of gases to prevent or extinguish the fire. It works on the principle of eliminating the agents which contribute to the ignition and sustaining of fire.

The elements of the fire triangle are oxygen, fuel, and heat, eliminating any one of them will extinguish the fire.

Fire Suppression Systems with IG
(N₂, Ar, N2+Ar, N2+Ar+CO2)

 

 

The inert gas is a colorless, odorless, non-conductive gas that has about the same density as air. The inert gas is stored in the cylinder assembly as a pressurized gas. When discharged into a protected space, it is clear and does not block your view. It leaves no residue and has no ozone depletion potential or global warming potential.

Fire Suppression Systems with Novec 1230 (FK-5-1-12)

 

 

Novec 1230TM extinguishes fires by removing heat. All fires need heat, oxygen, and a fuel source to continue to burn. By removing any of these three elements, you can extinguish the fire.

FM-200™ Fire Suppression Systems (HFC-227)

 

 

FM-200™ suppresses fire by disrupting the fire triangle. The fire triangle is made up of heat, oxygen, and a fuel source, and by removing one of these elements, the fire is extinguished.

FM-200™ removes the heat or free radicals, which interferes with the fire triangle’s chemical reaction to extinguish the fire. Clean agent fire suppression systems, like ones using FM-200™, can achieve fire extinguishing concentrations in 10 seconds or less.

  2. FM-200™ is a clean agent that is safe around people; therefore, FM-200™ fire suppression systems are safe to install in occupied spaces.
  3. When an FM-200™ fire suppression system activates to put out a fire, no residue is left behind, and it is safe for equipment, electronics, and machinery.
  4. Compared to other clean agents like Novec 1230, FM-200™ is a slightly more cost-effective option.
  5. Because of the small amount of FM-200™ required to suppress a fire, smaller or fewer cylinders are needed when compared to other agents.
  6. When compared to other clean agents, FM-200™ has a slightly higher Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Fire Suppression with CO2 Systems

 

 

CO2 fire suppression systems can either be used in a total enclosure or in a local application. In the total enclosure, all of the CO2 is discharged into an enclosed space, flooding it completely. In a local application, the CO2 can be used to concentrate suppression on a single component or piece of equipment, such as an EDM Machine. CO2 is the only gaseous agent that can be applied locally in this way. CO2 can be stored in two ways:

  1. Listed: UL/FM
  2. High-pressure spun steel cylinders (known as HPCO2 suppression systems)
  3. Low-pressure light wall refrigerated tanks (known as LPCO2 suppression systems)
